Objectives of the Department
- To educate students to expand their knowledge in the discipline of Microbiology and through research relevant to our national interest with the purpose of grooming them to be Public Health Infectious Diseases specialists to meet increasing national demand.
- To provide laboratory diagnostic support and training of laboratory personnel during national public health emergencies.
- To play a collaborative role with local, national, and international public health agencies in research directed towards the prevention and control of infectious diseases, as well as to explore and address local and global health challenges related to infectious diseases through public health research.
- To conduct and supervise national surveys on nutrition, non-communicable diseases, and infectious diseases, e.g., Dengue, Chikungunya, TB, HIV, HBV, HCV, and HIV.
- To promote public health through better understanding of infectious diseases and human immunology based on the interaction of basic and translational research that contributes to the development of new diagnostics, treatment, prevention, and control of human infectious diseases.
